Wii launch - Sales In the worldwide marketplace, the Wii is currently behind the Xbox 360, which was released one year previously, but far ahead of the PlayStation 3 in total units sold. Since its launch, the monthly sales numbers of the console have been higher than its competitors across the globe. While Microsoft and Sony had experienced losses producing their consoles, in the hopes of making a long-term profit, Nintendo claims to have optimized production costs to obtain a significant profit margin with each Wii unit sold.[24]
